Coco the Dog - Explained

I imagine that most of you have heard of the long standing comic strip "Marmaduke." Somewhat dated, but certainly one of the most popular comic strips of all time, Marmaduke has developed something of a cult following at a blog called "Marmaduke Explained". That site provides the extremely useful and hilarious service of explaining exactly what is happening in a given Marmaduke strip in layman's terms, in case you didn't understand the, typically obvious, premise of the gag.

Check it out. It's good for a few (not always family friendly) laughs.

My boy Ross pointed out that blog to me a few months back, and in tribute to Ross and his dog Coco, I am proud to present "Coco The Dog."

If you'd like, please leave your own custom "explanation" in the comments. Fan mail for "Coco the Dog" can be sent to:

awww man, where to begin?! a dog baking croissants?! wearing an apron?! there's like comedy packed in every square inch of that shot! haha. i like how you made the entire background with colored outlines, which gives it that background effect feel. and it's so apparent sometimes how our artwork styles are so different. good stuff man.

Just to let you know - I always trust that your animations of real life things are exactly how they are in real life.

And from the looks of it, Coco has been mixing in a few salads with her croissants...

This one is definitely a brilliant strip from a truly genius mind. See, Ross here has been trying to get Coco to roll over and on most days this is a daunting task. However, on this day Coco has ROLLED some croissants and baked them. Therefore surpassing even Ross' own expectations. And as you can see if you study the art enough, Coco is not thinking selfishly, but has instead laid out some croissants for a friend by the name of Mario. Unfortunately, Ross may be a little upset when he sees that spilled flour on the kitchen floor. Truly brilliant!

I think perhaps Coco's lean stature may be a result of her upright posture. That, or I haven't seen her in a while and have fond memories of a lean, mean, Coco leaping over the coffee table at the BOX.

Good explanation there Mr. Vasquez. So far you're the top runner.

On a technical note - the outlines aren't really colored, I just turned down the opacity on the layer in which I inked in the background. So I guess it's a blend of white and translucent black - colored "grey" so to speak.

Hahah, I love it Wheezy. Looks like Coco left all four of the range coils on too. That's so her.

Obviously Coco, high on a potpourri of PCP and Meth as evidenced by her googoo eyes and stylish beret, has made hash croissants for Mario. However excited about his talented dog, her owner, Mario, realizes the buttery snacks are bittersweet, as he cannot eat them for fear of expanding his already glorious cankles...
